About Me

My name is Sarah Harris-Hill I am a rancher, volunteer, and blogger. I have built several businesses online over the past 20 years and then semi-retired in 2011.

In 2013 my brother decided that he was no longer going to run my parents ranch and I came back to the ranch in Wyoming.  I had sold my agricultural operation in 2008 and moved to Belize living on an island ….and now found myself thrust back into ranching.

Over the years I have been involved with many different agricultural activities and during my work with Ag Extension in AZ I was exposed to several more.

It is my hope that folks who want to raise food, fiber and ag products can learn to make a living doing these things. Agriculture is hard work, and I enjoyed it far more when I was 20, than I do at 50, however I do believe that every  person who has the desire to succeed, can. If you put your heart into it, I know that you can be a successful small farmer or rancher.

I now live on the ranch I grew up on, with my husband and in the summer my mother. We are living in a 115 year old house with only wood and pellet heat, and building up the ranch to be an income producer for both my mother and myself.

I am a fifth generation rancher in this area, and I am very proud of not only the knowledge imparted to me by my parents, and grandparents, but also of the life that has been so inspirational to me.

My neighbor and I started a value added program that has morphed into a business called Shack Food, and I believe in value added.

I have had sheep, goats and cattle. I owned a nursery business, and have worked in hay, cotton, beans and beet farming. I have extensive knowledge of fiber business, and am an amazing cook. Wow I don’t often toot my own horn.

I have been a guest speaker, at many different places including Quivira Coalition, Montana State Agriculture Meeting, BLM, Forest Service, Rotary Clubs, and many more about sustainable agriculture, and non traditional ag. I love this life and anything I can do to help expand it I will.
